Weekly Topic-Specific Workshops for Afghan Women
The Afghan Women’s Support Center, a program at the SALAM Islamic Center, in Sacramento, CA offers weekly topic-specific workshops for Afghan women every Saturday, 10 am – 12 pm PDT. This FREE initiative is a 12-week program that supports Afghan women and families who have arrived in the US within the past two years. The workshops provide essential guidance and support as Afghan women navigate and adapt to their new environment, with topics in various fields, including government aid, regional resources, and adapting to the new environment.

SAPHAL (South Asian Parents/Caregivers: Heal And Learn)
SAPHAL is specially designed for parents/caregivers of South Asian descent and is open to parents & caregivers with children of any age. We have also found it relevant for parents/caregivers from other collectivist and immigrant communities. Register here.

Saheli Circle: In-Person Support Groups in Fremont by Narika
Saheli Circle is an in-person support group for survivors of domestic violence. This group will be held every Monday. Narika's Domestic Violence advocates will facilitate the support group. The purpose of the support group is to create a healing and safe space for stimulating conversations through crafts, book clubs, discussions, mindfulness activities, and movie nights. We will include breathing exercises and gentle stretches as part of the group every session.

Language Access 101: Requirements, Best Practices, and Resources for Working with Persons with Limited English Proficiency
Join this virtual training led by Asian Resources, Inc. The session will include speakers from the API Forward Movement, Pals for Health, and the Los Angeles Legal Aid Foundation. Register here.
Through case studies and interactive discussions, you’ll learn about:
Language access requirements and best practices for community-based organizations; service providers; government agencies; and community health workers, promotores and representatives.
Legal requirements for providing language assistance services, including interpreter and translation services, to persons with limited English proficiency (LEP).
Tools providers can use to ensure compliance, address language gaps in various service settings, and advocate effectively for individuals with LEP.
This webinar will be presented in English, with live Spanish interpretation.

Orientation for Sponsors of New Arrivals
This orientation, by the California Department of Public Health, Office of Refugee Health, is for sponsors of refugees who have or are arriving under the Welcome Corps Program AND for supporters of newly arrived humanitarian parolees from Afghanistan, Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, Ukraine, and Venezuela. Parolees and Refugees are welcome to attend as well as service providers.
The session is live and includes time for anonymous Questions & Answers.

Applying a Trauma-Informed Approach to Nutrition Education for Newcomer Service Providers
This webinar, featuring speakers from Leah’s Pantry, will teach newcomer service providers about nutrition amid trauma and displacement. Leah’s Pantry is a California-based nonprofit with a nationwide footprint in trauma-informed nutrition education. Their innovative work building and implementing community nutrition and food security programs improves the health, wellness, and resilience of communities throughout the country.
This webinar discusses how good and bad experiences affect our food choices and explores the principles of a trauma-informed approach to nutrition security and ways to teach about healthy eating that respects diverse cultures and the unique experiences of newcomers. Participants will be encouraged to reflect on their relationship with food and how that can affect teaching newcomers about eating well.
This webinar is for newcomer service providers interested in delivering nutrition education. The webinar will not cover food security or food access topics.

Training Webinar: Housing Assistance for Ukrainians (HAU) Program
The Housing Assistance for Ukrainians (HAU) program is a vital California Department of Social Services Refugee Programs Bureau (RPB) asset for newly arrived Ukrainians in California. With time, policy and expectations about the program have shifted and there is a need to convene and review guidance regarding the purpose of the HAU program, eligibility criteria, application processes, and other program components.
